Poivre Noir is a convivial place, dedicated to the love of good food. Whether you are a gourmet or an epicurean, whether you enjoy classic bistro cuisine or you are simply curious and open to culinary discoveries, you are more than welcome! Here, we are all about enjoying and sharing.
In 2014, guided by their love for the finer things in life, Nathalie and John, who are partners in life but also in business, decided to open a restaurant in Rwanda. In March 2015, Poivre Noir opened its doors. Traditional bistro cuisine, with a touch of creativity is on the menu: bistronomy has arrived in Kigali. To Chef John, the most important is to be able to use locally sourced products, and to offer just the right cooking, the most delicious sauces and dishes that are as much of a treat for the eyes as for the palate. Nathalie enjoys spending time attending to guests, and she will be more than happy to talk about the wines she has picked for the wine list or about one of the signature cocktails to match one of John’s creations. They are both hoping to see you all at their table again very soon !

Poivre noir most likely counts among the top 5 restaurants on the entire African continent. Even in gastronomic countries like France, Belgium and Italy it is difficult to find a restaurant of such high standards. In addition, the menu is very original. The Belgian-French cuisine also uses local/African ingredients. My highest regards.

I have to say this is one of the best restaurants in Kigali! (and I eat out a lot!) Last night I ordered the same drink I always get: a mojito. It didn't taste right...Nathalie the owner came over to the table, found out what was wrong and personally made me a new concoction of gin and cucumber. I was blown away. The service is excellent and the food is outstanding. Two big thumbs up!

I have eaten here a few times in 2017 with family and friends and always enjoyed ourselves. The food was of excellent quality: delicious and well presented. The restaurant is small and so generally quiet but with plenty of ambience. I would highly recommend this place as there are few restaurants in Kigali which are consistently good.

Creative and surprising menu which makes every visit a pleasure, discovering new food combinations and contrasts (in taste or consistency). Friendly owners that are always around to make sure all is perfect all along. Beautiful new location, more spacious, plenty of parking space. Only 5 minutes away from the city center. Perfect to satisfy your taste buds!

My friend and I agreed that the risotto we ate at this place was the best risotto we've ever had. The atmosphere here is lovely, the staff is friendly and courteous. The owner (who is also the chef guilty of preparing the phenomenal risotto) comes to each table at dinner to greet his customers. The prices are fair. Excellent place.

I love White Traffle Rissoto! My children love cheese croquette so much, their wonderful flavor still remain my brain. So addictive!! We definetely visit again, wanna try everything!! Thank you so much for great experience!

We visited Poivre Noir with another couple recently and thoroughly enjoyed the food. Many restaurants in Kigali offer food that is satisfactory; there are few where the food is remarkable. Poivre Noir is one of those few remarkable Kigali restaurants. Whether you want steak, fish, or a hamburger - you will be pleased. A great wine selection, as well!

I live in Kigali and come here often for lunch during which they serve mostly burgers and salads. The burgers are the best I've had in Kigali - juicy and tasty in soft homemade buns. The chips and coleslaw on the side are also excellent. I'd actually come here everyday if the portions were smaller and I didn't have to spend a hours in the gym to burn it off.
